This is the second part of the short documentary I made during my last visit to Kuwait last February (2008). In this part I talk about the National Holidays celebrations and decorations and the different parts of the beautiful Kuwait City.

Unlike the first part most of the shots in this one were taken.. on foot, as far as I can remember hand held. A heavier post production was applied here using Final Cut Pro, Color and Motion.

It is in my opinion the HV20 night shooting ability pushed to the limits! I captured using ProRes, tried to get the maximum dynamic range using Color’s curves and at the end applied noise reduction using CHV Repair filters, all while trying to make the picture look as natural as possible. Looking at it now, even in its compressed form, I must say that I am impressed 🙂

This is the second and final part for now. You can watch the first part here.

Kuwait Docupedia (Part 1)

Kuwait Docupedia (Part 1) from Moayad Hassan on Vimeo.

The first part of a short documentary I made during my last visit to Kuwait last February (2008). Since it was short in a podcast kind of way I was going to call it "Kuwait Docupediacast" but thought it was too much :p

This part gives fast encyclopaedic information about Ahmady City, Oil, National Holidays, weather among other things, all related to Kuwait off course.

Most of the shots were taken from a moving car using a Canon HV20. Post-production was made with Final Cut Pro and Motion. Nothing very fancy really.

The second and final part (for now at least) will be coming very soon.

Blessed and happy Ramadhan to everyone 🙂

This is a very short video greeting card for this occasion. Special thanks to my friend Abdullah Al Foudry for the lovely picture of the crescent. The picture of the beautiful Kuwait City in the background was shot from the Free Zone in Shwaikh.

كل عام و الجميع بخير و تقبل الله طاعتكم

Around the Cube

Around the Cube from Moayad Hassan on Vimeo.

A collection of some old footage I shot a while ago around the canals of Birmingham city centre. The shots themselves may not be the greatest I have ever done, but I needed to work on something for vimeo and to practice the time remap effect on, which I am guilty of overusing here 🙂

The Time Remap effect is used in many movies and music videos these days. It is also known as the 300 effect since the movie 300 made it popular. In this effect the speed of the movie changes speed from very fast to super slow and vice versa in a smooth manner.

The Decision

The Decision from Moayad Hassan on Vimeo.

It’s a story of three friends. One of them has chosen to stay behind, and he surly had his reasons. The others couldn’t wait much longer, so they left him, and many unanswered questions; and drifted away.

I’m not into photography these days as you can see. I still haven’t imported any new photographs on my computer ever since I got back from Kuwait. On the other hand, I’m playing with video a lot, which is more fun for me and has always been my true love.. except I never had the production tools which would allow me to make a professional looking videos.. up until now.

I will continue playing with video for a while and -eventually- will try to do something useful with it soon en shaa Allah.
