Misty Grey (photo project)

See the whole set here.

Woke up very early just before the morning, and started to wipe the window to look through it. I realised then that there is nothing to wipe… it was real fog outside! I couldn’t wait for the dawn to break so I can go out and shoot some pictures. I expected to be alone in the streets of Birmingham city centre that early in the morning, but I found out that I was not.. even before 7 am. The last part of the set was shot at The Vale in the University of Birmingham which I reached later in the morning.

The first 9 photos of the set were shot with the Ricoh RF 500, the rest with the Minolta Dynax with 35-80mm and 50mm. The film in both cameras was Lomography Lady Grey 400, pushed to 800 in the Ricoh and to 1600 in the Minolta. I must say that I was impressed with the film! It gives a pleasant low contrast even when pushed, with kind of muddy grains. Developed in T-max chemicals.

Waterfront Walk (video project)

Waterfront Walk from Moayad Hassan.

A walk along Waterfront Walk in Birmingham, two walks to be exact. The first one at night with the Canon 5D MKII and Canon 85mm f/1.2, the second early in the morning with the Canon HV20 with Letus35 Mini and Canon 24-105mm f/4. Edited with FCP 6 with a hint of Magic Bullet Looks and a lot of Lock&Load for the first part since it was shot handheld.

Frozen (video and photo projects)

No, I’m not talking about my blog activity although I know that I only posted 3 posts since the beginning of the year (one of them was written in last October). I’m talking about real things… frozen.

Here are some photo and video project I did during the past few months which I should’ve posted earlier but decided to collect them and post them all together in one thematic post.

A Foggy Christmas Eve from Moayad Hassan on Vimeo.

I went to the canal behind Birmingham University train station just before dusk on christmas eve (2009). The weather was beautifully foggy all day, so it was a unique photographic opportunity for me.

The place was in almost total darkness. The only main lighting source I had was the orange ambient light from the distant streets which was intensified by both the fog and the snowy grounds. Other than that some lights behind the trees and the fence of the train station also helped a little.

Reservoir from Moayad Hassan on Vimeo.

This is after the first small blizzard we had yesterday, later at night the amount of the snow doubled here in Birmingham. It’s as irresistible scene for us since we don’t see the snow that often, and not at all back in Kuwait!
